What Is Interferential Current Therapy?

Interferential therapy is a type of electrical stimulation (e-stim) that creates a low-frequency therapeutic effect deep into muscle and tissue.

Unlike traditional TENS units, IFC penetrates deeper into tissue, making it especially effective for larger muscle groups and more stubborn pain patterns.

How Does Interferential Current Therapy Work?

Interferential therapy works by delivering two medium-frequency electrical currents through the skin using electrode pads placed around the affected area. These two currents cross paths, or interfere with each other, creating a third low-frequency current that penetrates deeper into muscles and tissues than standard electrical stimulation therapies. This low frequency stimulation triggers the body’s natural healing processes by reducing pain signals, increasing blood flow, decreasing swelling and inflammation, relaxing tense muscles and spasms, stimulating endorphin release, your body’s natural painkiller.
